Wests Tigers faced a tough 28-16 defeat against the Brisbane Broncos in a high-scoring NRLW trial match at Suncorp Stadium. The game marked the season’s first outing for both teams and resulted in a thrilling seven tries to four victory for the Broncos without any conversion attempts.

The match was split into 25-minute thirds, with the Tigers opening the scoring through winger Tess Staines. Despite their initial lead, Brisbane managed to respond with three consecutive tries, establishing a 12-4 advantage at the end of the first third.

In a back-and-forth contest, Sarah Togatuki and Rikeya Horne found the try-line for Wests Tigers, leveling the score at 12-12 by the 31st minute. However, the Broncos quickly regained control, with Ali Brigginshaw extending their lead through a 45th-minute try.

The Tigers maintained their trend of scoring first in each third, as Claudia Nielsen, the team’s recent acquisition from Rugby Sevens, marked her unofficial debut with a try. Despite a late surge with tries by Jada Ferguson and Chelsea Lenarduzzi, the Broncos emerged victorious with a final score of 28-16 in this NRLW trial match.
