Reno Wildfire Callahan Road Evacuation

A significant wildfire broke out in the south Reno area on November 11, 2024, prompting immediate evacuations for nearby residents. The fire started near Callahan Road just before 10:15 a.m. and has led to the evacuation of residents living in the areas of Cherrywood Drive and Millie and Shawna Lanes.

The county has advised residents to leave the area immediately, with an evacuation center set up at the South Valleys Library. A large plume of smoke is visible on the lower half of Slide Mountain, indicating the fire’s spread.

High winds in the region are exacerbating the situation, with sustained winds of 23 miles per hour and gusts nearing 40 miles per hour. These conditions are expected to continue throughout the day, complicating firefighting efforts.

As of the latest reports, the fire has not been fully contained, and local authorities are working to manage the situation. News crews are en route to the scene to provide updates as more information becomes available.
