Wrestling World Mourns the Loss of Wrestling Superstar Virgil
The wrestling community is in mourning following the passing of wrestling legend Michael Jones, known to fans worldwide as Virgil. Jones, who also went by the monikers of Meatsauce God and Wrestling Superstar, passed away at the age of 61.
The news was confirmed through Jones’ verified Instagram account, where a heartfelt message was shared with fans. Close friend and wrestling referee Mark Charles III also shared the news, urging fans to pray for Jones and his family during this difficult time.
Jones gained fame in the wrestling world during his time with WWE, where he rose to prominence as the bodyguard of Ted DiBiase, also known as the “Million Dollar Man,” in the late 1980s. He later became a fan favorite after turning against DiBiase and capturing the Million Dollar Championship in the 1990s.
Tributes poured in from fellow wrestlers and fans, with WWE Hall of Famer expressing shock and sadness over Virgil’s passing. Former WWE superstar also paid homage to Jones, remembering his contributions to the wrestling industry.
While the cause of Jones’ death has not been disclosed, it is known that he had been battling health issues in recent years. In 2022, he revealed that he had suffered two strokes and was diagnosed with early-stage dementia.
