Washington Capitals Acquire Goaltender Logan Thompson From Vegas Golden Knights

The Washington Capitals have bolstered their goaltending depth with the acquisition of netminder Logan Thompson from the Vegas Golden Knights. The trade involved a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft originally from the NY Islanders and Washington’s own third-round pick in the 2025 Draft, as announced by Capitals’ president and general manager Brian MacLellan.

Thompson, a native of Calgary, Alberta, showcased impressive performance in the 2023-24 season with Vegas. Setting career highs in wins and games played, he recorded a 2.70 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 46 games. His standout play ranked him 10th among NHL goaltenders with over 45 games. In the playoffs, Thompson posted a solid 2-2 record, with a 2.35 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in four appearances.

Before his tenure with Vegas, Thompson excelled in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights and the Binghampton Devils. His standout performance in the 2020-21 season earned him the prestigious Aldege ‘Baz’ Bastien Memorial Award for the league’s outstanding goaltender. Additionally, Thompson spent time in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays, showcasing his skills at various levels of professional hockey.

Internationally, Thompson represented Canada at the 2022 World Championships, where he contributed to the team’s silver medal finish. His notable achievements extend to his college hockey days at Brock University, where he garnered accolades such as being named to the USports (OUA West) All-Rookie Team and the USports (OUA West) First All-Star Team.
