Struggling Rockies Face Tough Season After Loss to Padres

DENVER, Colo. — The Colorado Rockies continue to struggle in the 2025 season as they faced another crushing defeat, losing 21-0 to the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. This defeat marks the Rockies’ eighth consecutive loss, raising their record to 6-33.
The loss, which is tied for the worst start after 39 games in Major League history, featured a dismal performance from Rockies’ pitcher Bradley Blaylock. He allowed 12 runs in 3 2/3 innings, leading to a skyrocketing ERA of 12.94.
San Diego’s onslaught featured 24 hits and five home runs, with Gavin Sheets, Jake Cronenworth, Jason Heyward, Xander Bogaerts, and Fernando Tatis Jr. all contributing to the score. The Padres’ impressive offensive display overshadowed the Rockies’ lackluster performance, which included only five hits.
Manager Bud Black described the game as ‘a tough loss,’ but acknowledged that such events occur in baseball. He expressed that players just need to move on from the game as quickly as possible.
In addition to their offensive struggles, the Rockies have set several franchise records for unfavorable performance, including allowing at least 10 runs in four consecutive games. The last time this occurred was back in 2021 and 2007.
Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander, who struggled earlier this week against the Tigers, remains hopeful about his performance moving forward. He stated, ‘I wouldn’t say I was discouraged — definitely frustrated. I know that I’m capable of a lot more. It’s just about figuring out what went wrong.’ Dollander’s current ERA stands at 7.71, indicating a season riddled with challenges.
The Rockies look to recover as they prepare to face the Padres again this weekend. With their next game approaching, players are hopeful for a turnaround in their fortunes as the season continues.
