Rafael Furcal Mlb Arrest

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Rafael Furcal, a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star shortstop, turned himself in at the Broward County jail on Wednesday, facing two felony charges related to an incident that occurred on Monday, according to online records.

Furcal, 47, of Weston, is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and launching a missile into a dwelling, vehicle, building, or aircraft. Court records show that details about the incident have not been made public, including the exact location of the occurrence. A representative of the Broward Sheriff’s Office indicated that questions should be directed to the Sunrise police, who are handling the investigation.

The arrest took place around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday when Furcal self-surrendered “without incident” at the BSO Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale. An arrest warrant, signed by a detective with the Sunrise Police Department, listed the charges but did not include specifics of the alleged incident.

Furcal, a native of the Dominican Republic, enjoyed a stellar 14-season career in Major League Baseball from 2000 to 2014, primarily with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. He earned the National League Rookie of the Year title in 2000 while with the Braves and was a part of the 2011 World Series championship team with the St. Louis Cardinals. He concluded his playing days with the Miami Marlins in 2014 after featuring in nine games.

This latest incident marks another legal challenge for Furcal, who has faced run-ins with the law previously, including arrests for driving under the influence in Georgia in 2000 and 2004.

As of Thursday morning, he was no longer listed in active inmate records with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Local news outlets, including Local 10 News, continue to seek more information from the Sunrise police regarding the current case.
