Texas A&M Softball Dominates in 18-0 Victory Over Saint Francis

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas A&M Aggies secured a historic 18-0 victory over the Saint Francis Red Flash on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA softball tournament at Davis Diamond. This dominant performance marked the most runs scored in a five-inning regional game in NCAA tournament history.
A&M (46-9) never faced Saint Francis before this match, but they capitalized on every mistake made by the Red Flash. The Aggies showed their offensive strength with a five-run first inning and exploded for ten runs in the second.
After their swift victory, the Aggies are now set to face the Liberty Flames on Saturday afternoon. Liberty (48-12) is coming off a win against Marist, where they ended a 17-game winning streak with a 10-5 victory. The Flames are back-to-back Conference USA champions and ranked among the top 40 in several statistical categories nationally.
Key players for Liberty include junior outfielder Rachel Rouper, who has hit 20 home runs this season, tying for 14th in the nation. On the Aggies’ side, leadoff hitter Kennedy Powell is one run away from breaking the program record for single-season runs, currently held by Sharonda McDonald at 60.
A&M statistics indicate they are 34-5 when Powell scores and 17-1 when she scores more than once. As the Aggies prepare for the next challenge, they look to maintain their momentum.
The match against Liberty promises to be a tough contest as they possess a strong lineup that can challenge the Aggies’ pitching staff. The Aggies’ pitching ace for the tournament, Emily Kennedy (21-4, 2.68 ERA), will likely be a key player to watch in the upcoming game.
As the softball tournament progresses, both teams aim to solidify their paths to the championship, highlighting the competitive spirit of the NCAA tournament.
