FC Twente Wins Women’s Title as PSV Finishes Second

ENSCHED, Netherlands — FC Twente secured the Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie title on Saturday, winning their tenth championship in thrilling fashion after defeating AZ 3-2.
The match was tense, as Twente entered the day needing a win to clinch the title, standing tied on points with PSV, both having 54, but with Twente holding a superior goal difference.
In front of a lively crowd, FC Twente initially fell behind 2-0. However, Jaimy Ravensbergen shone brightly, scoring a hat trick to lead her team back to victory.
“This championship is one I will never forget,” said Ravensbergen, who finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 24 goals. She credited her teammates, emphasizing that teamwork was key to her success.
Coach Joran Pot decided against a harsh speech during halftime, opting instead for encouragement, which paid off as Twente rallied in the second half.
“It was important to instill confidence,” Pot said. “We had to highlight the qualities our team possesses.”
As the final whistle blew, the FC Twente players celebrated wildly on the pitch, with champagne showers and raucous singing of ‘Sweet Caroline’. They made history as the first women’s team in the Netherlands to wear a star on their shirts, a symbol of their achievements.
Meanwhile, PSV, who also played against Feyenoord, finished second after a frustrating match, unable to overcome the scoring efforts of Twente. Team captain Nina Nijstad expressed pride in their effort despite their disappointments.
“We did what we could,” Nijstad said, noting the club’s focus on achieving a record points total this season. The second-place finish gives PSV a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
As the league concludes, both teams shift their attention to the upcoming Eredivisie Cup matches, with PSV set to play Ajax and Twente facing FC Utrecht.
