Ashland’s Tyler Sauder Honored with Roosevelt Robinson Memorial Sports Scholarship

ASHLAND, Ohio – Tyler Sauder, a senior at Ashland High School, has been awarded the prestigious Roosevelt Robinson Memorial Sports Scholarship. This honor recognizes his exceptional athletic achievements, particularly in football and track, as he prepares to continue his sports career at Ashland University.
Sauder’s relentless energy and drive have set him apart throughout his high school years. ‘You don’t always see someone with that much energy and drive,’ said Ryan Stackhouse, AHS track head coach and football defensive coordinator. ‘He’s got a motor that just never stops going.’
During his senior year, Sauder excelled in multiple sports, earning 10 varsity letters overall. He played a crucial role in the Arrows football team, contributing to an undefeated regular season and earning Second-Team All-Ohio honors. Sauder finished the season with 129 tackles and four interceptions.
Reflecting on his accomplishments, Sauder said, ‘It’s a nice feeling when your hard work is recognized and has paid off.’ He is inspired by the legacy of Roosevelt Robinson, the scholarship’s namesake, who holds multiple records at AHS.
Sauder’s transition to football came after a successful track career, where he set a school record in the 800-meter run. His decision to focus on football for college, while still participating in track and baseball during the spring, speaks to his athletic versatility.
‘He brought an enthusiasm to the game,’ said Scott Valentine, the Arrows football head coach. ‘That enthusiasm was contagious among his teammates.’
As he nears the end of his high school journey, Sauder’s accomplishments are a testament to his hard work and dedication. He looks forward to what lies ahead at Ashland University, where he will continue to build upon a foundation of success.
