Patriots Draft TreVeyon Henderson, Reject Trade Offers to Secure RB

Foxborough, Massachusetts — The New England Patriots have selected former Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson with the No. 38 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team turned down trade offers from both the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans, valuing Henderson highly enough to keep their position and select him.
In a behind-the-scenes look at New England’s draft strategy, the Patriots captured the intense discussions in their war room during the second round. Reports revealed that the Bears offered their No. 39 pick along with a seventh-rounder to move up one spot, fearing the Patriots would take Henderson. The Patriots declined this offer, as they anticipated Chicago’s keen interest in the star running back.
The Texans had a more substantial deal on the table, offering the Patriots a package that included the No. 58 and No. 79 picks in the 2025 draft, along with a third-round pick in 2026. However, the Patriots believed Henderson was a player they could not afford to miss out on, leading them to reject both offers.
Henderson, seen as one of the top running backs in the draft, accumulated 1,016 yards and ten touchdowns last season while averaging 7.1 yards per carry. He is noted for his versatility and ability to contribute significantly in various offensive roles. His talent stood out in a backfield that struggled last season, where incumbent Rhamondre Stevenson faced issues such as fumbles.
General Manager Eliot Wolf and head coach Mike Vrabel both expressed confidence in Henderson’s potential to be a game-changer. Their decision to pass on the trade offers reflects their commitment to revitalizing the running back position and enhancing the team’s overall performance.
With Henderson now part of the roster, the Patriots aim to develop him into their lead back, complementing their evolving offensive strategy centered around quarterback Drake Maye.
