BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran shined with a double and a triple as the Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Mets 3-1 on Monday night. The victory marked a significant challenge for Mets pitcher Kodai Senga, as he allowed three runs, the most he’s given up this season.

Senga (4-3) struggled initially, trailing 3-0 after two innings. However, he steadied himself, retiring the final seven batters he faced. In total, he allowed five hits, issued three walks, and struck out five.

Red Sox starter Hunter Dobbins kept the Mets to just one run on five hits. A critical moment came in the fifth inning when he struck out Tyrone Taylor for the second out with a called third strike. Justin Wilson (2-0) pitched effectively as well, striking out Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor to close out a threat from the Mets.

Veteran Aroldis Chapman closed the game in the ninth inning, recording his seventh save of the season.

Duran kicked off his impressive night with a double in the first inning, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on an Alex Bregman grounder. Shortly after, Trevor Story added another run with a productive single, bringing the score to 2-0. Duran sealed the Red Sox’s 3-0 lead in the second inning with his sixth triple of the season.

The Mets’ only run came in the third inning, courtesy of a single from Taylor. Notable performances for the Mets included Venezuelan Francisco Álvarez, who went 2-for-4 with one run scored, and Dominicans Starling Marte and Juan Soto, who went 1-for-1 and 1-for-4, respectively. Francisco Lindor struggled, finishing 0-for-3.

For the Red Sox, Venezuelans Carlos Narváez and Wilyer Abreu contributed significantly, with Narváez hitting 2-for-3 with one run scored. Rafael Devers ended the game 0-for-2 but also crossed the plate once.
