Kiké Hernández Reveals Unforgettable Bowel Incident During Playoff Game

LOS ANGELES, CA — Dodgers outfielder Kiké Hernández shared a surprising story about an embarrassing moment during a playoff game in 2020. In a podcast released this week, Hernández discussed how an unexpected bowel movement affected his performance on the field.
While speaking with comedian Kevin Hart, Hernández explained he had been taking antibiotics for a cracked root canal, which caused diarrhea. He recalled, “At this point, I’m in the game as a designated hitter, getting ready to go in the game.”
Hernández noted a moment of excitement when pitcher Dustin May struck out an opponent. “I go ‘F–k yeah!’ and when I did that, I thought I farted,” he said. However, the outfielder realized something was off as he walked up the stairs to hit. “It’s kind of a different walk than usual,” he admitted, adding, “I gotta try to focus, lock it in and get into it.”
He went on to strike out in three pitches, a feat he described as “never been happier to strike out in [his] life.” Although Hernández didn’t specify the exact game during the podcast, he indicated that the incident occurred in the 2020 playoffs and provided more details in a previous discussion earlier this year.
Hernández, who has played in Major League Baseball for 12 seasons, has spent nine of those years with the Dodgers. He has also played for the Red Sox, Astros, and Marlins. He was part of two World Series championship teams with the Dodgers, winning titles in 2020 and again in 2024 after defeating the Yankees. This season, he is batting .229 with the Dodgers.
