Diamondbacks Blown Save Leads to Extra-Inning Loss Against Dodgers

LOS ANGELES — The Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. The defeat marked the third blown save of the season for Diamondbacks reliever Tanner Scott.
In the ninth inning, with a one-run lead, Scott was called upon to close out the game but surrendered a game-tying solo home run to catcher Gabriel Moreno. Just when it seemed the Diamondbacks had a chance to steal victory, Scott allowed a two-run shot to Corbin Carroll in the 10th inning, putting the Dodgers ahead.
Despite Scott’s struggles, the Diamondbacks nearly pulled off a stunning win. They rallied through adversity after being no-hit for six innings by Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The team managed to tie the game in the ninth after Moreno’s homer, sparking hope among fans in attendance.
Manager Torey Lovullo discussed the team’s ups and downs this season, noting the toll of previous losses. “Those are the harsh realities of the game,” Lovullo said. “You have to find a way to keep your head up.”
The Diamondbacks opened the game with starter Ryne Nelson, who pitched five strong innings but struggled with pitch count demands. He limited runs, allowing just one earned run and three hits while striking out several key batters.
Moreno added to his impressive season total with a critical home run, marking his third of this season, all against the Dodgers. Carroll’s late-season power display pushed the Diamondbacks’ hopes high before falling short due to errant pitching.
The defeat extended a tough streak for the Diamondbacks, who fell to 2-4 in extras this season. With the loss, momentum shifts to the series finale, scheduled for Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. where Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes will face off against Dodgers pitcher Dustin May.
“We’ve had our share of painful losses,” Lovullo remarked. “But we need to bounce back quickly and refocus on tomorrow,” referring to the upcoming matchup and the chance to even the series.
