Danielle Collins Tennis Match Confrontation

STRASBOURG, France — Danielle Collins confronted a cameraman on Wednesday during her match against Emma Raducanu at the Internationaux de Strasbourg.

As the two players took a break in the deciding third set, with the score tied at three games apiece, Collins grew visibly frustrated with the cameraman’s close proximity. “I need to get water. We’re on a changeover. You don’t need to be that close to me, and you don’t need to be on top of Emma,” Collins stated.

She characterized the cameraman’s approach as “wildly inappropriate” and insisted, “It’s not that difficult to give space.” The clash seemed to spur Collins on, as she took control of the match immediately after the altercation, winning three consecutive games to claim the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In her post-match comments, Collins emphasized the value of self-expression in sports. “I think to be good at anything, self-expression is really important,” she said. “I know what it takes to succeed, and at this level, you have to compete and this is what competing is about.”

Collins, known for her fiery demeanor on the court, has drawn comparisons to tennis legend John McEnroe for her passionate expressions during matches. Following her first-round victory in Australia earlier this year, she celebrated triumphantly by engaging with the crowd, showing both bravado and confidence.

Next, Collins will advance to the quarterfinals where she is set to face Anna Kalinskaya.
