Cilic Returns to Roland Garros for Tune-Up Qualifying Rounds

PARIS, France – Former US Open champion Marin Cilic is set to compete in the qualifying rounds for the 2025 Roland Garros, marking his return to the tournament for the first time since 2022. Cilic, who reached the semi-finals that year, will face China’s Wu Yibing in his opening match.
The Croatian, now ranked No. 109, has a solid 31-16 record at the clay-court major, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Following a series of knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024, Cilic aims to rebuild his career, having recently won titles on the ATP Challenger Tour.
“I’m just excited to be back on the clay again,” said Cilic. “There’s a lot of history here for me, and I feel ready to put in a strong performance.”
Other notable names in the qualifying draw include Borna Coric, the top seed who has reached the third round of the main draw five times. Coric will play against French player Titouan Droguet in his first match. Emerging talents, including Nishesh Basavareddy and Fabio Fognini, are also key players to watch as the competition kicks off on May 19.
This year’s Roland Garros will feature a total prize pool of €56.352 million, marking a 5.21% increase from the previous year. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each take home €2.55 million.
As the qualifying rounds commence, fans are eager to see which players will secure their spots in the main draw, slated to begin on May 25. Tickets are still available for those wanting to witness the action at Porte d’Auteuil.
