Danielle Collins Tennis Match Strasbourg

Strasbourg, France – Danielle Collins defeated Emma Raducanu 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of a pre-French Open warm-up tournament on May 22, 2025. The match was marked by an incident involving a cameraman that Collins deemed ‘wildly inappropriate.’

Collins, who was looking to reach her second quarterfinal of the season, showcased her resilience after dropping the first set. She dominated the second set and secured the victory in the deciding third set.

The American tennis star confronted the cameraman during a changeover. “I need to get water, we’re on a changeover,” she said. “You don’t need to be that close to me, and you don’t need to be on top of Emma. It’s wildly inappropriate. It’s not that difficult to give space.” Collins later apologized to Raducanu for the cameraman’s behavior.

After the match, Collins spoke about her performance and recovery. “Physically pretty good. I had a day off yesterday, so I feel like it’s nice,” she said. Despite her age of 31, she feels competitive. “I’m 31 now. Everyone told me after 30 it’s all downhill, but other days I don’t agree.”

Collins is set to face Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals. She leads their head-to-head record 2-0, having won their last meeting at the ATX Open in 2023. Collins expressed her desire to make a deeper run in this year’s Strasbourg tournament, after earning 325 points in the event last year.

As the match progressed, Raducanu experienced a back injury and called for a medical timeout, though she returned to compete. Collins capitalized on the moment to seize control of the match after losing the first set.

Collins’ victory comes as she seeks to enhance her ranking, currently outside of the WTA top 50. She looks forward to her match against Kalinskaya with confidence gleaned from past encounters.
