Rangers Call Up Alejandro Osuna Following Injury to Pederson

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers are set to promote outfielder Alejandro Osuna to the major leagues after an injury to designated hitter Joc Pederson. Pederson suffered a fractured right hand during a game against the Chicago White Sox on May 18, leaving him sidelined for approximately six weeks.
Osuna, 22, currently does not occupy a spot on the team’s 40-man roster, meaning the Rangers will need to make a corresponding move to create space. The young outfielder has shown promise, having signed with the Rangers from Mexico in 2021, and has steadily progressed through the minor leagues.
In his minor league career, Osuna has played 373 games with a strong .277 batting average, .370 on-base percentage, and a .436 slugging percentage. His impressive numbers continued after a midseason call-up to Double-A last year, where he recorded a .306 batting average over 57 games.
Although Osuna struggled in his initial stint at Double-A in 2025, he improved enough to earn a promotion to Triple-A with the Round Rock Express earlier this month. In just seven games, he has demonstrated his potential with a remarkable .485 on-base percentage, recording more walks than strikeouts.
With Pederson out, the Rangers are looking for a spark from Osuna, who is currently ranked as Texas’ seventh-best prospect. Analysts have noted his potential to hold a regular position in center field but raised concerns over his hitting against left-handed pitching.
Osuna’s promotion comes at a crucial time for the Rangers, who fell to a record of 25-28, sitting fourth in the AL West and three games behind the Wild Card standings. It remains unclear if Osuna will play designated hitter or fill in the outfield as the team navigates injuries and roster changes.
“He can be a real contributor for us while Pederson is healing,” a team official noted, highlighting the team’s confidence in Osuna’s abilities.
