Ireland Claims Victory Over West Indies in First ODI

Dublin, Ireland — Ireland triumphed over the West Indies in the first ODI of their three-match series on May 21, 2025, winning by 124 runs at Castle Avenue.
Batting first, Ireland posted a formidable score of 303 runs. Andy Balbirnie was the star, scoring 112 runs off 138 balls, supported by Paul Stirling who made 56, and Harry Tector contributing 50. The Irish innings was marked by a strong partnership and quick scoring that laid a solid foundation.
In response, West Indies struggled to find their footing. They lost half their wickets for just 31 runs, unable to cope with the disciplined bowling of Ireland. After the match, Balbirnie, who received the Player of the Match award, expressed pride in his team’s resilience, saying, “We had a tough few weeks with injuries but guys have stepped up.” He also acknowledged Paul Stirling’s career milestone of 10,000 runs. “Hope he can keep contributing this way,” he added.
West Indies captain Shai Hope acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, stating, “We needed to show more intent,” and emphasized the need to improve for the next match.
