PHOENIX, Arizona — The Washington Mystics will look to end a two-game losing streak when they face the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday evening at PHX Arena. Both teams have had a rocky start to the season, with Washington entering the game at 2-2 and Phoenix at 2-1.

The Mystics began the 2025 season strong, winning their first two games before stumbling against the Las Vegas Aces in a close 75-72 match on Friday. Kiki Iriafen posted a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while Sonia Citron led the team with 19 points.

In contrast, the Mercury faced a setback against the Seattle Storm, losing 77-70. Alyssa Thomas led the offense with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Satou Sabally and Monique Akoa Makani contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively, but the team fell short after a strong effort.

Notably, the Mercury’s roster has changed significantly this year. They are without veteran stars Diana Taurasi, who has retired, and Brittney Griner, who signed with the Atlanta Dream. Nevertheless, Thomas and Sabally have stepped into leading roles to bring the team to a winning record.

For Washington, the injury report lists several players, including Shakira Austin, who has been ruled out, and Brittney Sykes, who is questionable. Sykes has been a standout player this season, averaging 26.3 points per game but missed the last game against Las Vegas.

Despite their recent struggles, the Mystics have performed well against the spread, currently holding a perfect 4-0 record in that regard this season. The team will look to re-establish its rhythm against a Mercury squad that is also reliant on new talent.

Coincidentally, the last time these two teams met, the Mystics took home a 90-77 victory in September. Both teams need this game to secure a foothold in their respective conferences.

Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. ET and can be viewed on KTVK TV. This matchup offers a crucial opportunity for both teams to gauge their potential and make necessary adjustments moving forward.
