Joey Bosa Buffalo Bills Injury News

Buffalo, NY — Defensive end Joey Bosa is facing another setback as he has suffered a calf injury during a recent workout with the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Sean McDermott announced the news on Tuesday at the team’s organized activities.

McDermott confirmed that Bosa will likely be out through the spring and aims to return for training camp. “He’ll be out for more than likely the foreseeable springtime at least and then we’ll get into training camp,” McDermott told reporters. “It’s unfortunate to see him go down. But it offers someone else an opportunity to step up and get some quality reps for us as we move forward.”

The 29-year-old Bosa, a five-time Pro Bowler, has struggled to maintain his health in recent seasons. He has missed 23 regular-season games over the last three years due to various injuries. In 2024, during his final season with the Los Angeles Chargers, he played in 14 games but recorded only five sacks, a career low.

This offseason, Bosa signed with the Bills after being released by the Chargers, securing a one-year deal worth $12.6 million with $12 million guaranteed. Following his latest injury, McDermott expressed concern about Bosa’s durability, stating, “Durability, availability are key ties to our roster.”

For now, other defensive ends, including Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa, Michael Hoecht, and third-round pick Landon Jackson, will have the opportunity for increased reps in Bosa’s absence. McDermott remains optimistic about Bosa’s recovery, adding, “We get him back when we get him back, probably at this point training camp.”

In addition to Bosa’s situation, star running back James Cook is also absent from OTAs as he seeks a new contract, further impacting the Bills’ preparations for the upcoming season.
