Manchester, England — Liam Delap, the young striker from Ipswich Town, is set to join Chelsea after rejecting interest from several Premier League clubs. Sources from teams including Manchester United, Newcastle United, Everton, Nottingham Forest, AC Milan, and Juventus confirm that they have been informed of Delap’s decision.

The 22-year-old’s move to Chelsea is contingent on reaching an agreement on personal terms and fulfilling his £30 million ($40 million) release clause. Delap’s future has become a topic of great interest following his impactful season with Ipswich, where he scored 12 goals in the Premier League, despite the team facing relegation.

Ipswich acquired Delap from Manchester City for an initial £15 million ($19.2 million), with an additional £5 million tied to their promotion. During his time with Ipswich, Delap emerged as a key player, often generating chances on his own due to limited support from teammates.

Analysts noted that Delap’s powerful runs and goal-scoring abilities make him a quintessential forward, capable of scoring from various positions. “He’s a throwback striker, always looking to stretch the opposition’s defense,” said Mark Carey, a senior data analyst.

Lee Grant, Ipswich’s coach and former Manchester United goalkeeper, has worked closely with Delap, enhancing his physicality and attacking prowess. Grant emphasized the importance of Delap’s combative style, which not only aids his scoring but also creates opportunities for teammates.

Delap’s departure poses a challenge for Manchester United, who had viewed him as a primary target for their need for a reliable center-forward. The club’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, expressed concern over the situation, as United aims to resolve its ongoing scoring issues.

In light of Delap’s decision, United may explore alternative options, including Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford or Victor Osimhen from Napoli, as they seek to reinforce their attacking line before the transfer window closes.
