Kohli Breaks IPL Record for Most Boundaries in History

Bangalore, India – Virat Kohli made headlines during the IPL 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on June 3, 2025, by breaking a significant record previously held by Shikhar Dhawan.
Kohli entered the match tied with Dhawan for the most fours in IPL history, with both players at 768. However, after hitting his first boundary, Kohli surpassed Dhawan, now holding the record with 769 fours in 267 matches, compared to Dhawan’s 768 in 222 matches.
“Breaking records is always a special feeling, especially in a final where every run counts,” said Kohli. He has been a pivotal figure in the IPL since its inception yet has yet to secure a championship trophy.
In this match, Kohli began with 614 runs for the season and aimed to exceed Chris Gayle’s record of scoring 700 runs in an IPL season three times. Kohli previously achieved this feat in 2016 with 973 runs and in 2024 with 741 runs.
The current leaders of the most fours in IPL history now include:
- 1. Virat Kohli – 769 in 267 matches
- 2. Shikhar Dhawan – 768 in 222 matches
- 3. David Warner – 663 in 184 matches
- 4. Rohit Sharma – 640 in 272 matches
- 5. Ajinkya Rahane – 514 in 172 matches
Kohli’s record underscores his longevity and consistency in the tournament, making him a formidable presence at the crease.
The IPL 2025 final holds significant weight for Kohli and RCB, as the team seeks victory to add to their long-standing record of participating in every season without a title.
