BALTIMORE, MD — Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino has set a clear expectation for Jackson Holliday: he will play every day. Just two days into his new role, Mansolino called the 21-year-old into his office on Sunday to share the news.

“J, you’re going to play every day,” Mansolino said, affirming Holliday’s position as the team’s leadoff hitter. This decision marks an upward trend for Holliday, who has consistently performed as one of the Orioles’ best hitters this season.

In fact, Sunday’s game was Holliday’s 18th time batting leadoff this season. Although the first four times were under previous manager Brandon Hyde, the remaining 14 have come under Mansolino’s guidance.

The Orioles recently celebrated a three-game sweep against the Chicago White Sox, pushing their win streak to two games. This success is partially attributed to strong performances from their starting pitchers. Zach Eflin, Dean Kremer, and Charlie Morton combined for 19.2 innings, allowing just one earned run during the series.

“It’s all about finding a rhythm,” Mansolino said. “The pitching staff has really stepped up, and we’re slowly starting to find our offense.”

In addition to Holliday’s elevation in the batting order, the Orioles are beginning to see the return of injured players. Colton Cowser has rejoined the active roster after healing from a thumb injury. His return is expected to boost the team’s power and provide a defensive upgrade in the outfield.

“Having Cowser back will help a lot,” Mansolino added. “He brings energy to the team.”

Meanwhile, injured outfielder Ramón Laureano is also nearing a return, adding excitement to the lineup. The team is still adjusting to injuries; key players Cedric Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle remain on the injured list.

Despite the ongoing injury challenges, the Orioles look to maintain their recent positive momentum. “We’re finding ways to win, and that’s encouraging,” Mansolino concluded.
