Devin Haney Teofimo Lopez Boxing Match

Las Vegas, NV – On June 2, news surfaced indicating that a highly anticipated boxing match between Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez was set for August 16 in Saudi Arabia. However, the excitement was short-lived as reports emerged later that day about the negotiations collapsing.

Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine tweeted that, “Negotiations have collapsed for a proposed fight between Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez on Aug. 16 in Riyadh, @ringmagazine has learned.” Both fighters had recently achieved significant victories on May 2 in Times Square, but the path to their match has now hit a major bump.

Prior to the news of the canceled fight, tensions had flared between Lopez and Turki Alalshikh, the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. Lopez voiced criticisms of Alalshikh on social media, casting doubt on his involvement in the upcoming bout.

Following the breakdown in negotiations, Devin Haney took to social media to express his frustrations, stating, “The fight with Teo is not signed! I signed my part & Teo has been stalling. As of today he has decided he doesn’t want to fight me he is officially the biggest 🦆👎🍅.” Haney’s remarks suggest he feels Lopez is avoiding a confrontation.

Oscar De La Hoya, a renowned boxing promoter, didn’t hold back in critiquing Haney’s comments, implying that Lopez’s decision may have been wise. In a post, De La Hoya wrote, “Devin Haney is calling Teo a duck??? More like Teo is SMART to not fight a runner who has less fans than Diddy does.” This remark hints at dissatisfaction with Haney potentially moving on from a rematch with Ryan Garcia, who is also promoted by De La Hoya.

With the collapse of Haney vs. Lopez, boxing fans are left wondering about future matchups for both fighters. As it stands, the anticipated clash has slipped through their fingers.
