Liam Delap Joins Chelsea After Successful Season with Ipswich

London, England – Chelsea Football Club has officially signed Liam Delap from Ipswich Town on a six-year contract. The 22-year-old forward is coming off a strong season where he scored 12 goals in the Premier League, despite Ipswich’s relegation.
Delap, who started his career at the Derby County academy, moved to Manchester City in 2019. He is familiar with the club environment, having been coached by current Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca in his youth. Last season, Delap showcased his talent by netting 12 goals in 37 appearances, and he expressed eagerness to contribute to Chelsea’s future.
Speaking about his transfer, Delap said, “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach. It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”
Delap grew up around football, influenced heavily by his father, Rory Delap, a former Premier League player. This background has fueled his ambition to succeed at a higher level. “Since I was eight or nine years old, I was focused on football,” he commented, emphasizing the dedication he has shown throughout his career.
The striker will wear the number 9 shirt at Chelsea, a highly regarded number historically associated with club legends. Delap’s confidence in taking this responsibility reflects his aspirations to become a central figure for the club.
Following his transfer, Chelsea has now made four signings this summer, aiming to strengthen their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season, which includes a return to the Champions League. With Delap’s addition, the club hopes to bolster their attacking options and reclaim a competitive position in English football.
