EDMONTON, Canada — Sergei Bobrovsky is set to make his 60th consecutive postseason start as he leads the Florida Panthers into Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.

At a media day event on Tuesday, Bobrovsky reflected on his journey to this moment, noting how his time spent waiting became a key to his success. “If I waste my time, that wouldn’t be smart,” he said, emphasizing his need to prepare and focus while sidelined.

Bobrovsky has had an impressive playoff run, boasting a 12-5 record, a 2.11 goals-against average, and three shutouts this postseason. His performance has been pivotal in leading the Panthers, who are attempting to win back-to-back championships.

“Just a calming presence,” said Panthers forward Sam Reinhart of Bobrovsky. “He’s a motivated guy…when he’s pushed, you’re going to get the best out of him.”

Bobrovsky, a former Vezina Trophy winner, faced criticism earlier in his career for lackluster playoff performances, but he has turned that narrative around, particularly after guiding the Panthers past the Boston Bruins in a seven-game series last season.

The experience has been significant for Bobrovsky, who left Columbus for Florida in a seven-year deal in 2019, allowing him to reach the Cup Final for a third straight year. “It’s a blessing, and I appreciate the opportunity,” he said.

The Panthers have retained 14 players from last year’s championship team while facing an Oilers squad eager for revenge after losing last season’s final.

Florida center Aleksander Barkov leads the Panthers this postseason with 17 points, contributing to their rich offensive depth, which is critical as they prepare to face a powerful Edmonton lineup that includes star players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Wednesday’s matchup is particularly significant for both teams, as they know each other’s strengths and tactics from last year’s finals. “You get flashbacks from last year, for sure,” forward Anton Lundell said.

The Panthers’ success on the road throughout the playoffs has given them confidence as they approach this matchup. “We’re a super-confident team on the road this year,” forward Sam Bennett stated.

As the Panthers lace up for Game 1, they remain focused on the task ahead, ready to prove their resilience and skills against the Oilers once more.
