BROOKLYN, MI – Tensions rose this weekend at Michigan International Speedway as NASCAR drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Carson Hocevar faced off following a controversial incident last week in Nashville.

During the Nashville Superspeedway race, Hocevar collided with Stenhouse, which sent Stenhouse crashing into the wall. Hocevar managed to finish second, achieving a career-best result, while Stenhouse ended the race in last place.

Fellow competitor Denny Hamlin stated on his podcast, “Ricky Stenhouse will absolutely wreck Carson Hocevar sometime in the near future.” He cautioned Hocevar to be prepared for what might come next. Stenhouse has a history of retaliatory action on the track, notably punching Kyle Busch after an incident in the 2024 All-Star Race, which resulted in a $75,000 fine.

When asked if he would confront Hocevar after the race, Stenhouse remarked, “that costs too much money,” highlighting the financial consequences of aggressive behavior in racing.

Hocevar took the initiative to call Stenhouse midweek to address the situation. He described their conversation as “productive” and expressed hope that there would be no further payback during Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400.

Stenhouse acknowledged that the Nashville incident was his first significant issue with Hocevar, but noted that several drivers have expressed frustration with Hocevar’s aggressive racing style throughout the season.

Ryan Blaney, another driver, voiced his dissatisfaction on the radio after Hocevar’s bump sent him spinning at Atlanta Motor Speedway, calling him “a moron.” Despite that, Blaney supported Hocevar’s speed and urged him to remain true to his racing style.

Hamlin also weighed in, claiming his tolerance for Hocevar would diminish if the young driver continues to create chaos on the track.

Hocevar, the youngest full-time Cup driver at 22, has drawn attention both for his impressive performances and controversial behavior this season. He’s finished second twice and won a Truck Series race in May but has also faced backlash for incidents like flipping off competitors after a victory.

Enthusiasts are split over Hocevar, with some fans rallying behind him as he embraces the spotlight. “It’s cool to just be talked about,” Hocevar said. “Ultimately, it’s fun to be in the news.”

As for Stenhouse’s warnings, Hocevar remains optimistic about their rivalry, believing there’s no imminent threat of retaliation come Sunday’s race.

The FireKeepers Casino 400 is set to begin at 2 p.m. with fans eagerly awaiting to see how the dramatic relationship between the two drivers unfolds on the racetrack.
