Duke Defeats Murray State in NCAA Super Regional Game 1

DURHAM, North Carolina — The Duke Blue Devils claimed a vital victory in Game 1 of the NCAA Super Regional against the Murray State Racers on June 7, 2025. Duke’s powerful offense and strong pitching led them to a decisive 7-0 win at Jack Coombs Field.
The game began with both teams eager to take the lead, but it was Duke that set the tone early. In the second inning, D. Decker scored the first run of the game after D. Tauken flied out to center.
In the third inning, Duke’s J. Hogart crossed home plate after D. Decker’s single to center, putting Duke ahead 2-0. The Blue Devils continued to execute well, with K. Johnson hitting a ground-rule double, scoring two more runs and pushing the lead to 4-0.
In a later inning, K. Johnson contributed with a double to deep center, bringing in M. Winslow, enhancing the Blue Devils’ lead to 5-0. The consistent hitting and strategic base-running from Duke created several scoring opportunities.
On the mound for Duke, N. Schutte showed impressive control, allowing only a few hits and restricting Murray State from scoring throughout the game. His solid performance made it difficult for the Racers to find their rhythm.
Duke head coach Chris Pollard emphasized the importance of this game in their campaign. ‘Being able to play these games at home really gives us an edge,’ he stated. The win puts Duke in a favorable position as they look to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 1961.
Attendance for the game was 2,686, with fans eager to support their team under the bright lights of the Super Regional. The Blue Devils aim to secure the series with a win in Game 2, which is set to take place soon.
