A’ja Wilson Enters Concussion Protocol, Misses Key Game for Aces

Las Vegas, Nevada – A’ja Wilson, the star center for the Las Vegas Aces, will not play in Friday night’s game against the Dallas Wings after being placed in concussion protocol, the team announced today.
Wilson, a three-time WNBA MVP, sustained the concussion during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, June 11. With 1:17 left in the third quarter, she was injured after taking a hard elbow to the face while attempting to defend a layup. She immediately left the game and was reported to be bleeding from her head.
Aces coach Becky Hammon stated after the game, “She’s going to go to the doctor tomorrow and see what’s going on. I don’t have anything beyond that.” Wilson was initially listed as doubtful for the game against Dallas, but her status changed after further evaluation.
Under WNBA policy, a player must remain in concussion protocol for at least 48 hours before being cleared to play. This means Wilson is also likely to miss Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury. She is currently averaging 20.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game this season.
The Aces, who have struggled with a 4-4 record this season, will face a tough challenge against the Wings, who are seeking to turn around their disappointing 1-10 record. The Wings recently welcomed back No. 1 draft pick Bueckers, who recently scored a career-high 35 points against the Mercury.
Tips off for Friday’s game is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. The Aces hope to regain their momentum and secure a crucial victory at home.
