Mike Brown Taylor Jenkins Knicks Coaching Search

New York, NY — The New York Knicks are set to meet with former coaches Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins next week as they search for a new head coach. Sources told ESPN Saturday that these meetings will be the first stage of formal interviews for the position.

Brown had previously interviewed for the Knicks job in 2020 and made a positive impression before Tom Thibodeau was hired. The Knicks fired Thibodeau last week after he led the team to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years.

Other teams have turned down the Knicks’ requests to speak with their respective head coaches. The Dallas Mavericks denied New York’s request to interview Jason Kidd, while the Chicago Bulls refused to grant permission for Billy Donovan. The Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves also denied requests to speak to Ime Udoka and Chris Finch, respectively.

Brown, the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year, helped the Sacramento Kings end a 16-season playoff drought. He holds a career record of 455 wins and 304 losses across several coaching positions.

Jenkins, who was let go in March after a six-season tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies, had a record of 250 wins and 214 losses. While the Grizzlies were competitive under his leadership, they only advanced past the first round of the playoffs once during his time there.

The Knicks are actively seeking to fill their coaching vacancy and are also expected to reach out to assistant coaches for potential candidates.
