Adam Mazur Joins Miami Marlins for Upcoming Start

MIAMI, Fla. — Adam Mazur, a right-handed pitcher and former Iowa Hawkeye, has been recalled by the Miami Marlins from Triple-A Jacksonville. He is expected to start Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
“Very cool. Just excited for this opportunity,” Mazur told reporters. He added, “I’m open to whatever. Not sure what to expect, but I’m just excited to be here.” Mazur aims to give the team a chance to win as he prepares to take the mound for his Marlins debut.
Prior to this recall, Mazur made eight starts for the San Diego Padres last season, recording a 7.49 ERA over 33.2 innings. His first major league start against the Los Angeles Angels was promising, as he allowed just one run on two hits in 6.0 innings.
In a player trade in July 2024, Mazur, along with three other players, was sent to Miami in exchange for left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott and right-handed pitcher Bryan Hoeing. Since then, he has been performing well with the Jumbo Shrimp, amassing a 3.62 ERA in 12 starts this season.
During his last outing against Rochester, Mazur achieved a career-high nine strikeouts, despite allowing three runs in 4.2 innings. He previously limited Durham to only two runs over six innings, demonstrating significant improvement since his previous MLB experience.
Mazur joins the Marlins’ rotation as a replacement for the injured Max Meyer, who is recovering from a hip injury. While Meyer has been able to play catch, it’s uncertain when he will return, suggesting Mazur may have multiple starts ahead of him.
