Phillies Win Again, But Stott Injured in Victory Over Marlins

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Phillies extended their winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday. This win marked their sixth victory in their last seven games, reinforcing their position in the National League East.
However, the celebration was dampened by a new injury to second baseman Bryson Stott, who was replaced late in the game by Edmundo Sosa. Manager Rob Thomson provided an update after the game, revealing that Stott hyperextended his elbow while swinging.
“We’re going to have him checked out, and there’s a chance he won’t play today as a precaution,” Thomson said via Lochlahn March of the Philadelphia Inquirer on X. The manager noted uncertainty about whether Stott’s current elbow trouble is related to previous nerve issues he faced during a challenging 2024 season.
Stott’s performance this season has been below par, with a batting average of .236 and an OPS+ of 75, which is the lowest of his career. As such, it might be wise for the team to allow him a brief period to recover if needed. The Phillies are already missing their starting first baseman, Bryce Harper, further complicating their lineup situation.
If Stott needs time off, Edmundo Sosa is expected to take over at second base. Sosa has been effective in a utility role, posting a .274 batting average with an OPS+ of 89.
The Phillies will continue to monitor Stott’s condition as they prepare for their next game against the Marlins.
