Berlin, Germany – Elena Rybakina has returned to the grass courts, where she won her first Wimbledon title in 2022. However, she faces challenges after making the transition from clay, a surface that requires different skills.

The world number 11, known for her powerful serve, struggled to adjust to the grass earlier in her career. Rybakina explained, ‘It’s not easy to change from any surface, especially grass, which is very different after clay. The ball bounce is really low, and you need to take the ball instead of waiting for it.’

With a strong serve and aggressive play, the 26-year-old has potential on the faster surfaces, but adapting quickly can be difficult. The grass court season follows right after the clay season, which can pose further issues for players like Rybakina, who thrive on hard and grass courts.

Rybakina has won nine career titles, including two on clay. She first triumphed in Bucharest, defeating Patricia Maria Tig 6-2, 6-0. Her second victory on clay came three years later at the WTA 1000 event in Rome. Additionally, she won the Stuttgart Open in 2024, taking down Iga Swiatek along the way.

Reflecting on her strategy for adjusting to the grass, Rybakina stated, ‘Thankfully, we have nice tournaments before Wimbledon, and hopefully by Wimbledon, I will get my best form.’ She remains optimistic despite her previous struggles on the grass.

Rybakina’s journey continues as she aims to reclaim her form ahead of Wimbledon, where she aims to defend her title and prove her capabilities on grass once again.
