More Rain Expected This Afternoon in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida is bracing for a hot and humid day with increased rain chances this afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has forecasted that up to 50% of the area could see rain, a significant rise compared to recent days.
According to meteorologist Kellianne Klass, scattered showers are expected to begin in the late morning, but the bulk of the rainfall is anticipated after lunch. The region has enjoyed sunny conditions recently, but the shift towards a wetter pattern aligns with typical summertime weather.
The weather will mark the official start of summer tomorrow, June 20, at 10:41 p.m. This summer solstice will bring nearly 14 hours of daylight for the area, with temperatures starting in the low to mid-70s. Heat index values could reach as high as 100-105 degrees later in the day due to the humidity.
In addition to rain, forecasters warn of the potential for strong thunderstorms this afternoon, particularly as the east coast sea breeze pushes inland. The greatest rain chances will focus inland, especially around and northwest of Interstate 4, where weather patterns often create favorable conditions for storms.
Looking ahead, another round of scattered showers is predicted for tomorrow. While rain coverage will slightly decrease over the weekend, it is expected to pick up again on Monday. Overall highs during the week will remain in the mid-90s, underscoring the persistent summer heat in the region.
