Carlos Alcaraz Advances as Rain Delays Wimbledon Day 3 Matches

MILANO, Italy (July 2, 2025) — The third day of Wimbledon was marked by rain delays but saw Carlos Alcaraz secure a straight-set victory over Oliver Tarvet to advance to the third round. The defending champion from Spain won 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in just over two hours on Centre Court.
Alcaraz’s victory against Tarvet marks his 20th consecutive win on the ATP tour, and he will face the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round. “I’m feeling confident,” Alcaraz said after the match. “Every win builds my momentum, especially here at Wimbledon.”
The number one seed in women’s singles, Aryna Sabalenka, also progressed after defeating Marie Bouzkova 7-6, 6-4. Sabalenka, who faced a tough challenge in Bouzkova, managed to come back in the first set’s tiebreak with outstanding shots.
During the day, Jasmine Paolini faced Russian player Kamilla Rakhimova on Court 3. After a challenging start, Paolini won the first set 6-4. She had previously broken Rakhimova’s serve and displayed strong tennis skills throughout.
Meanwhile, other Italian players were in action, with Mattia Bellucci competing against Jiri Lehecka for a spot in the third round. Alcaraz’s performance highlighted the mixed fortunes for the Italian contingent at this year’s Championships, where several seeded players were eliminated early in the tournament.
Along with Alcaraz and Sabalenka, the day’s matches also witnessed Andrey Rublev advancing on the men’s side, defeating Lloyd Harris in four sets. The excitement continues as Wimbledon unfolds, now fully underway after initial weather disruptions.
