NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans are seeing two Miami products, quarterback Cam Ward and wide receiver Xavier Restrepo, take different paths after leading Miami to its first 10-win season since 2017.

Ward was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in April, while the Titans signed Restrepo as an undrafted free agent. Ward played a key role in encouraging the organization to bring Restrepo on board, underscoring their connection from college where Restrepo posted 69 receptions for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns.

“He got me a great opportunity to get in the door,” Restrepo said. “But at the end of the day, I’m a grown man, just like he’s a grown man. So, I have to go get mine.”

While Restrepo’s college performance was remarkable, questions have arisen regarding his speed after he clocked an unofficial 4.83 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his pro day. He holds Miami records with 200 career receptions and 2,844 receiving yards.

Restrepo is competing for a roster spot as the Titans gear up for the new season. Titans coach Brian Callahan remarked on Restrepo’s work ethic, stating, “[Restrepo] is kind of like Cam’s shadow. They’re always doing stuff together.”

Restrepo’s dedication began with training from his father, Jaime, who molded his work ethic from a young age. Together with Ward and other rookies, Restrepo continues their 5 a.m. film study sessions in Nashville.

“The preparation hasn’t changed,” Restrepo said, emphasizing his commitment as he goes through intense training sessions every day.

Ward also acknowledged Restrepo’s progress: “His understanding of the offense right now is elite.” The combination of principles he learned from Miami and his drive to improve allows him to make significant plays during practice.

Although Restrepo is currently working primarily with backup quarterbacks, Ward is a constant presence, offering support between drills. Despite some challenges early in training camp, Restrepo’s faith serves as motivation. His wristband displays Philippians 4:13, reminding him he can overcome obstacles.

The competition at wide receiver has intensified, particularly after veteran Treylon Burks was placed on injured reserve. Restrepo has been lining up as a punt returner, demonstrating his versatility and increasing his chances of earning a place on the roster.

<p“It’s like no matter where you put him, I think he’ll be able to make a play,” Ward said. Restrepo reciprocated, stating he is “just trying to take advantage of every single opportunity.”

As practice progresses, Restrepo’s ability to find gaps in defenses allows him to stand out, especially after he executed a key touchdown catch from Brandon Allen during a two-minute drill.

With fellow rookie T’Vondre Sweat returning to practice after an abdominal injury, depth in the defensive line is being tested as the Titans prepare for joint practices against the Buccaneers.

As training camp unfolds, the eyes remain on Ward and Restrepo and how their shared background and individual skills will impact the upcoming season.
