Jaismine Lamboria Boxing Championship

NEW DELHI, IndiaJaismine Lamboria made history on Saturday night by winning a gold medal in the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool. She triumphed over Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, the Olympic silver medallist, in a thrilling final that highlighted India’s boxing prowess.

The match began with intense pressure, as Szeremeta received enthusiastic support from the crowd. However, the 24-year-old Indian boxer quickly adapted, demonstrating superior reach and effective counterpunching to assert her dominance in the second round.

Lamboria’s efforts culminated in a 4-1 split decision victory, marking India’s first gold medal at this year’s tournament. “This feeling can’t be expressed in words, I’m so happy to be a world champion,” Lamboria exclaimed to Olympics.com after her victory. “After my early exit at Paris 2024, I worked hard on both my technique and mental strength. This medal is the reward for a year of relentless dedication.”

In addition to Lamboria’s gold, Nupur added to India’s medal tally by earning a silver medal in the women’s +80kg division. Nupur faced Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska in a closely contested match. Despite her height advantage, Nupur was unable to secure the win, losing in a narrow 3-2 split decision after Kaczmarska delivered a critical blow in the final seconds.

Pooja Rani also contributed to India’s strong performance, winning a bronze medal after a tough semifinal match against England’s Emily Asquith. With three finalists in the women’s categories — Minakshi (48kg), Jaismine (57kg), and Nupur (80kg) — India has achieved its best-ever results at the World Boxing Championships.
