Saint-Etienne, France — AS Saint-Etienne solidified its position at the top of Ligue 2 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Stade de Reims on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The match saw a standout performance from Lucas Stassin, who scored twice, while goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur made crucial saves to secure the win.

Saint-Etienne remains unbeaten in the league and heads into the match after a surprising last-minute lineup change. João Ferreira was declared unfit just ten minutes before kickoff, forcing coach Eirik Horneland to rearrange his starting eleven, including the late inclusion of Ebenezer Annan to the left defense.

The game began slowly for the Verts, who struggled against a more aggressive Reims side. However, Stassin broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, converting a pass from Irvin Cardona. Reims equalized shortly before halftime with Teddy Teuma scoring from a controversial penalty in the 43rd minute.

Just when it seemed the teams would head into the break level, Stassin scored his second goal at the stroke of halftime, giving Saint-Etienne a 2-1 lead. The second half saw Igor Miladinović extend the lead to 3-1 with a stunning shot in the 49th minute.

Despite a strong response from Reims, with Teuma scoring again in the 69th minute to pull within one, the Verts held on for the victory. Fans celebrated passionately at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, joining in a memorable chant as the players took victory laps.
