Iga Swiatek Dominates Yuan Yue at China Open

Beijing, China – Iga Swiatek, the world number two, easily defeated home player Yuan Yue 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday at the China Open, advancing to the third round and beginning her title defense.
Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion from Poland, showed her dominance from the start, taking the first set without losing a game. Yuan, ranked 110th and competing as a wildcard, struggled to keep up but improved in the second set, though it wasn’t enough to change the match’s outcome.
“She was reading the court pretty well,” Swiatek said of her opponent. “It wasn’t easy and every game was tight.”
The Polish player entered the China Open fresh off a victory at the Korea Open in Seoul and acknowledged the support from the crowd, which cheered for her opponent.
Swiatek’s next match will be against Colombia’s Camila Osorio, who recently defeated Anna Kalinskaya. The top seed in Beijing, Swiatek noted that she is focused on starting strong despite her history in the tournament.
“I have great memories,” she said, reflecting on her previous tournaments in Beijing, “but every tournament is a different story.”
In other matches, fourth seed Mirra Andreeva of Russia advanced by defeating Zhu Lin of China 6-2, 6-2. Emma Navarro from the United States also moved to the next round by beating Romanian player Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 7-6.
The ATP 500 men’s tournament is taking place concurrently in Beijing, featuring top player Jannik Sinner. He won his first match against Marin Cilic with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
