Columbus, Ohio — The Miami Hurricanes moved up to No. 2 in the latest Associated Press college football poll following a strong 26-7 win against rival Florida on Saturday. This marking the Hurricanes’ highest ranking since 2017.

Miami, which has now defeated two ranked opponents this season, jumped ahead of Penn State and LSU in the rankings. Penn State fell to No. 3 after an idle week, while LSU slipped to No. 4 after beating Southeastern Louisiana.

During Week 4, one of the most shocking results came from Indiana, which upset Illinois 63-10. This victory was notably the largest by a non-top-10 team over an AP Top 10 opponent, pushing Indiana up to No. 11 and causing Illinois to tumble down to No. 23.

The Oklahoma Sooners also made headlines by entering the top 10 at No. 7 after defeating previously ranked Auburn 24-17. Oklahoma’s defense was dominant, recording a school-record nine sacks against Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold.

Miami’s solid defense played a key role in their victory against Florida, limiting the Gators to just six first downs and forcing them to punt seven times. The Gators struggled offensively, going 0 for 16 on third downs.

As the college football season progresses, Miami has its sights set on Florida State, their next major opponent, in two weeks.

The complete AP Top 25 poll for Week 5 is as follows: 1) Ohio State, 2) Miami (Fla.), 3) Penn State, 4) LSU, 5) Georgia, 6) Oregon, 7) Oklahoma, 8) Florida State, 9) Texas A&M, 10) Texas, 11) Indiana, 12) Texas Tech, 13) Ole Miss, 14) Iowa State, 15) Tennessee, 16) Georgia Tech, 17) Alabama, 18) Vanderbilt, 19) Michigan, 20) Missouri, 21) USC, 22) Notre Dame, 23) Illinois, 24) TCU, 25) BYU.
