LONDON, England – José Mourinho is back at Stamford Bridge for a pivotal match as Benfica faces Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. This encounter comes just 11 days after Mourinho took the helm at Benfica following his dismissal from Fenerbahce.

The match marks Mourinho’s return to a ground where he previously enjoyed considerable success, winning three Premier League titles during two spells as Chelsea manager. He hopes to rekindle that connection, stating he anticipates no hostility from Chelsea supporters.

“Chelsea is a winning machine,” said Mourinho on Monday. “I am the biggest one until someone wins four.” This statement reflects his pride in helping the club achieve significant milestones.

In his previous visits to Stamford Bridge with Manchester United, Tottenham, and Inter Milan, Mourinho secured only one victory. That win came during his tenure with Inter in 2009-10, a campaign that ultimately led to their Champions League triumph.

Despite his past accolades, Mourinho emphasized the importance of focusing on his current responsibilities with Benfica. “I am not a blue anymore…I am [Benfica] red now,” he claimed, underlining his commitment to his new team.

Off the pitch, Mourinho’s family remains closely tied to Chelsea. He noted that his son still visits Stamford Bridge regularly, highlighting the personal connection he maintains with the club.

As the day of the match draws near, Mourinho reflected on the club’s legacy, stating, “I helped them to become a bigger Chelsea, and they helped me to become a bigger José.” He also remarked on how Chelsea honors its history, a rarity in modern football.

Looking ahead, Mourinho brushed aside any previous tensions during his tenure, recalling a specific incident from October 2018 when he faced Chelsea while coaching Manchester United. He explained that a misunderstanding led to his reaction, emphasizing that it had nothing to do with the match result.

“I don’t think Chelsea fans boo me,” he said, maintaining that he has received positive reactions from supporters during his visits.
