Cal Raleigh and Dillon Dingler Shine Among MLB Catchers

DETROIT, Mich. — Cal Raleigh, considered the top catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB), had an outstanding 60-homer season for the Seattle Mariners and won the Platinum Glove last season. This year, he shares a noteworthy achievement with Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler, who did not allow a single passed ball throughout the entire season.
Both players excelled in their roles, with Dingler proving that he belongs in the big leagues. The 24-year-old former Ohio State outfielder not only showcased his defensive skills but also showed strength at the plate, contributing crucial hits when needed.
As the Tigers prepare for the postseason after a late-season surge, they will rely heavily on players like Dingler. They just made it into the playoffs and will face the Seattle Mariners in a best-of-three Wild Card series. With Tigers ace Tarik Skubal set to pitch in Game 1, Dingler’s consistency behind the plate becomes increasingly significant.
“With Dingler catching, everything feels a bit simpler,” a Tigers source said. “We trust him to get the job done.”
Meanwhile, another player making headlines is Javier Baez. Once regarded as an elite infielder, Baez transitioned to center field this season, a move that may have salvaged his career. Known as “El Mago,” he had fallen on hard times with batting averages below .240 in recent years.
This season, however, Baez has turned things around, hitting .257 across 126 games, alongside 12 home runs and 57 RBIs. His performance has sparked hope for the Tigers as they enter the postseason.
Baez aims to leverage his postseason experience from his time with the Chicago Cubs to help Detroit succeed. “I’m excited for this opportunity,” Baez said. “I know what it takes to win in the playoffs.”
As the Tigers gear up for the challenges ahead, all eyes will be on their key players, making this postseason one for the books.
