Brian Snitker Steps Down as Braves Manager After 2021 Championship

ATLANTA — Brian Snitker, who managed the Atlanta Braves to the 2021 World Series championship, announced Wednesday that he will not return as the team’s manager for next season. The 69-year-old will transition into an advisory role and will be inducted into the Braves’ Hall of Fame next year.

The Braves held a press conference to celebrate Snitker’s contributions, with chairman Terry McGuirk and general manager Alex Anthopoulos in attendance. Snitker shared emotional reflections about his long tenure with the organization, admitting he had uncertainties about managing another season.

“I said I’m going to need a little time after that last out to decide what I’m going to do,” Snitker said, joined by his wife, Ronnie. “After I got home and decompressed a little bit, I did decide this was the best move.”

Snitker has spent 49 years with the organization, starting as an undrafted free agent catcher in 1977, moving on to coach and manage in the minor leagues, and ultimately becoming the major league manager. In his 10 seasons at the helm, he guided the Braves to 811 wins, six NL East division titles, one wild-card berth, and the coveted 2021 World Series title.

“Honestly, I never thought I’d manage one day in the major leagues, much less 10 years,” Snitker said. “I never thought I’d hoist a trophy.” He also expressed his joy in leading a talented group of players during his tenure.

During the event, McGuirk acknowledged Snitker’s accomplishments, presenting him with keys to a new Ford truck and a vacation for him and his wife to Hawaii. “Today, we celebrate and honor not only one of the most accomplished managers in the history of our franchise but also one of the finest people to ever wear the uniform,” McGuirk said. “You will always be a Brave, a Brave forever, and this organization will always be your home.”

Snitker indicated he looks forward to contributing in his new advisory role and plans to be present at spring training. The search for his replacement has not yet been addressed by team officials.

The Braves finished the season with a 76-87 record, marking the end of Snitker’s current managerial contract. He is one of several managers to step down this offseason, highlighting changes across Major League Baseball.
