ANTIGUA GUATEMALA, Guatemala — Antigua GFC triumphed over Xelajú Mario Camposeco 2-1 during the closing match of the 13th round of the Torneo Apertura 2025 at Estadio Pensativo on October 5, 2025.

The match started intensely, with both teams demonstrating strong defensive organization and battling fiercely in midfield. However, a misfortune struck for Antigua in the 32nd minute when Gerson Chávez accidentally scored an own goal, giving Xelajú a 1-0 lead.

Despite falling behind, Antigua relentlessly attacked, creating several opportunities to equalize before halftime, but failed to convert. The second half saw an invigorated Antigua, who pushed forward and began to dominate play.

In the 65th minute, Francisco Apaolaza equalized for the home team with a precise shot that ignited the crowd. Just 12 minutes later, José Espinoza blasted a powerful shot from outside the box, scoring a stunning goal that gave Antigua a 2-1 lead.

Xelajú had the chance to level the match late in the game with a penalty, but Pedro Báez’s shot was saved by Antigua’s goalkeeper, Estuardo Sicán, who emerged as the game’s standout player with several key saves.

This victory lifted Antigua into third place in the league standings with 23 points, solidifying their position as a contender in the tournament. Meanwhile, Xelajú remained in fifth place with 18 points and will need to rethink their strategy for upcoming matches to secure their playoff spot.
