Texas Tech Reaches Historic 6-0 Start Amid Quarterback Injury

LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech’s quarterback is listed as day-to-day following a right leg injury sustained during Saturday’s game. The injury occurred early in the second quarter of their 34-14 victory over Kansas.
The quarterback was sacked while leading the Red Raiders to an 18-0 start. Redshirt freshman backup quarterback Donovan Smith stepped in and helped secure the team’s victory, marking the Red Raiders’ first 6-0 start since 2013.
Sources reported that the Big 12’s third-leading passer, Tyler Morton, had been performing consistently this season before the injury. Morton was able to walk off the field but needed further evaluation in the locker room. He later watched the remainder of the game from the sidelines in street clothes.
In the game against Kansas, Morton recorded 91 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 7 of 12 pass attempts. The Red Raiders have dominated their opponents, winning every game by a margin of at least 24 points.
Next, Texas Tech will face the defending Big 12 champion on Saturday in Tempe, a game that is expected to test their perfect record.
The team and fans are hopeful for Morton’s quick recovery as they prepare for the upcoming challenge.
