Calgary Flames Vs Utah Mammoth

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Calgary Flames are set to face the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City as both teams look to break losing streaks. The matchup comes after a disappointing 4-2 loss for Calgary against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, where the Flames squandered a 2-0 lead.

Head coach Ryan Huska expressed frustration over the team’s inability to maintain their early momentum. “We’re just not playing complete games,” Huska said after the loss on home ice. Despite outshooting the Golden Knights, the Flames allowed three goals in the third period.

Mikael Backlund, who scored against Vegas, made history by surpassing Lanny McDonald for sixth on the Flames’ all-time goals list, now sitting at 216 career goals. Backlund hopes to build on this achievement as the team faces Utah.

The Mammoth, entering their home opener with a record of 1-2, are also searching for consistency after a recent 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. Coach Andre Tourigny cited a need for more physicality around the net. “We’ve just been too perimeter,” said center Barrett Hayton.

Dylan Guenther leads Utah with four points in three games but the team struggles persist, having scored only five goals this season. Meanwhile, the Flames have tallied just nine goals in four games, raising concerns about their scoring efficiency.

For tonight’s game, Flames goalie Devin Cooley is expected to make his debut in place of the starter, Dustin Wolf, who has faced criticism for a shaky start to the season. This is Cooley’s first chance to showcase his talent in the NHL after a solid season in the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.

The match marks the only regular-season meeting between the two teams in Utah, and it is crucial for both sides to break their respective losing streaks. The Flames will be looking to regain their confidence, while the Mammoth aim to capitalize on their home ice advantage.
