LSU’s Whit Weeks Unlikely to Play Against Vanderbilt Due to Injury
Nashville, TN – LSU linebacker Whit Weeks is listed as doubtful for the No. 10 Tigers’ game against the No. 17 Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. The 20-year-old player is dealing with a bone bruise in his ankle that has limited his participation in practice this week, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Weeks, who is a first-team All-SEC linebacker and leads the LSU team in quarterback hurries, had been recovering from an ankle injury that required surgery after last season. After missing Spring Camp to recover, he was cleared to participate in Fall Camp. However, after experiencing soreness in his ankle, he was seen in a boot following last week’s game against Ole Miss.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly confirmed that Weeks has been dealing with this new bone bruise. “He’s very sore right now,” Kelly said. “He will attempt to warm up before the game to see if he can play, but his status is uncertain.”
The absence of Weeks could be crucial for LSU, especially since Vanderbilt’s quarterback is averaging 5.9 yards per carry this season. He is also completing 71.4% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. In Weeks’ absence, sophomore linebacker Keys is expected to see more playing time.
Kelly’s injury report also noted that defensive tackle Bernard Gooden is doubtful for the game due to a collarbone bruise. He too will have to manage pain as he recovers for the matchup.
Kickoff for the highly anticipated game at FirstBank Stadium is set for 11 a.m. CT. Fans will be watching closely to see if Weeks can take the field despite the injury.
