New York, NY – Jordan Clarkson faced challenges in his debut with the New York Knicks during a 119-111 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite the win, Clarkson’s poor performance raised concerns about his fit with the team.

Clarkson, known for his scoring ability and earning the 2020-21 Sixth Man of the Year title, struggled to find his rhythm on the court. He only made two of his seven field-goal attempts and missed both of his three-point shots. This performance added to worries about his shooting percentage and decision-making, which have been scrutinized throughout his career.

The Knicks were missing key players like Malcolm Brogdon, who is retired, and Josh Hart, who is recovering from an injury. However, Clarkson was unable to capitalize on his opportunity, playing just over 13 minutes. His time on the floor was less than that of other players, signaling a potential lack of confidence from the coaching staff.

Clarkson’s performance was not an isolated incident but part of a troubling trend in his career. After reaching a high point with an average of 20.8 points per game last season, he has since seen a rollback in his numbers. His averages have dropped from 18.4 points in 2020-21 to 17.1 points this season so far.

The early signs from the preseason pointed to these struggles. Clarkson shot only 38.8 percent from the field and an alarming 21.7 percent from beyond the arc during exhibition games, contributing more turnovers than assists over five games.

Traditionally, Clarkson has been a player who can heat up quickly, capable of putting together scoring runs even when facing challenges. However, as of now, he seems to be in a slump that may cost him playing time if not resolved soon. Knicks fans will be watchful as the season progresses, hoping Clarkson can turn things around.
