NEW YORK, NY — NFL insiders have faced criticism for focusing too much on minor transactions instead of significant updates. Nick Wright, host of FS1‘s First Things First, aired his frustrations on social media Sunday morning, calling for more substantial news in a sea of tweets about backup players and practice squad changes.

Wright expressed his thoughts clearly, saying, ‘I think I speak on behalf of all NFL fans when I say, we’d trade 100 banal transaction tweets for 1 good, solid update on things such as…’ He then listed critical storylines, including Battling concussions and player contract discussions.

In another post, Wright elaborated on the competition among insiders, suggesting it has devolved into a race to report trivial information, overshadowing real news. ‘The competition has become solely focused on being first on banal transactions,’ he stated. ‘Due to those relationships, we actually get less real news.’

Despite this, Wright acknowledged a few insiders, like Dianna Russini from The Athletic and Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk, who provide valuable information. He criticized many insiders for acting as mouthpieces for teams and agents instead of breaking actual news.

Wright concluded, saying, ‘The biggest insiders are all publishing a lot of agency/team PR & it feels like they’re making sure they stay on the right text chains by avoiding breaking actual news! It’s very frustrating!’

He emphasized that while there is some insightful reporting, the trend towards reporting mundane transactions continues to dominate the landscape.
