Colts Quarterback Anthony Richardson Faces Injury in 2025 Season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Anthony Richardson, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback, has experienced a challenging season in 2025 following an eye injury that sidelined him.
Richardson was selected fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft but struggled with performance and injuries throughout his career. In 2025, he was expected to start but faced competition from newly acquired quarterback Daniel Jones. In Week 6, however, a pre-game mishap led to Richardson suffering an orbital fracture, forcing him out of the game.
Following the injury, Richardson underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve. He has only played in two games this season, completing just one of two passes for nine yards and rushing four times for a negative yardage.
The Colts’ offensive strategy has shifted this season, emphasizing their robust rushing attack, which has contributed to their successful performance. Indianapolis currently boasts the league’s best offensive metrics.
Despite Richardson’s injuries and doubts regarding his future, Colts General Manager Chris Ballard stated that there are no plans to trade the young quarterback. The Colts, led by Jones, plan to continue developing Richardson’s potential despite his setbacks.
Richardson’s previous seasons have shown flashes of promise, including a solid ground game, but he struggled with consistency overall. In 2023, he played only four games and managed 11 games in 2024 due to injury and performance issues, completing less than 50% of his passes.
The Colts are set to face the Atlanta Falcons in Germany for their Week 10 matchup, a significant opportunity for the team as they navigate their quarterback situation.
